臉書（Facebook）內部於3日晚間發生全球性當機，圖片與影片皆顯示異常，直播功能也受影響；這次故障範圍不僅止於臉書網站本身，集團旗下社交平台Instagram、通訊軟體WhatsApp、Messenger全部受災。
實時監測網站「DownDetector」的數據顯示，從台灣時間晚間8時開始，陸續接到臉書故障的回報，地點遍及美東與歐洲地區。8時45分起，Instagram和WhatsApp的故障回報也開始湧現，歐美以外地區如日本、新加坡等亞洲地區的回報也紛至沓來，回報狀況在晚間11時左右達到最高峰。
臉書旗下社群平台齊出狀況，讓許多用戶湧入推特（Twitter）討論災情和故障狀況，有用戶開玩笑表示Twitter在這波故障中得到大量流量，成為最大贏家，也有用戶表示失去了這些社群平台就像是回到原始時代。

然而最諷刺的莫過於，臉書在隔（4）日清晨時，在競品Twitter上推文，向全體用戶致歉。臉書在推文中表示：「稍早，許多用戶在上傳圖片、影片或其他檔案時遇到一些問題，這些狀況現在已經修復，對於所造成的不便，我們深感抱歉。」
